The Polaris programme was closed down by the then Prime Minister John Major in August 1996 with a decommissioning ceremony at Faslane. The submarine HMS Repulse was the last of the four Polaris boats to be in service and was therefore the submarine that was decommissioned by John Major at that ceremony. Because Repulse was being paid off the ceremony attracted a lot of ex Repulsives to the event. So during the refreshment period in the "Ship Lift" we slowly made contact with each other and decided to continue that evening in the Ardencaple Hotel. As we slowly got to know each other again we realised this would be too good an opportunity to miss. It was decided to look at the possibility of having a reunion with greater numbers the following year. The rest is history.
In 1997 a reunion was held in the Imperial Hotel, Barrow-in-Furness on the 25th September, 47 ex Repulse crew members made the effort to attend. In the afternoon a meeting was held in the Hotel and the Association was formed, the following volunteers took office Chairman:- Frank Scutt, Secretary:- Dave Wiper and Treasurer:- George Elward. It was also agreed that the joining fee would be set at £10 and would be a one off fee, to be used for administration costs, of which postage for mail shots would be the main expense.
That fee still remains the same today.
The following Reunions have been held so far and are as follows:-
1997 The start date of the Repulse Reunion Association, Imperial Hotel
1998 30th Anniversary Reunion held in Barrow-in-Furness. 173 members and guests enjoyed the three day weekend.
1999 AGM and evening dinner held at the Engineers Club, Portsmouth. 2001 R.R. Association celebrated the Submarine Centenary at Barrow. 2002 "OZ" reunion held in Melbourne Australia. 7 travelled from UK.
2003 35th Anniversary Reunion held in Barrow at the Lisdoonie Hotel.

We try to be an outgoing and an up to date Reunion Association; as you can see we have our own website and we are building an Association data base so that eventually we will be able to deliver the annual Newsletter by e-mail which will have a great saving on administration costs. (Therefore it is important that you keep the Association Secretary up to
date with changes in your e-mail address, our Officials are listed above).
Some of our members enjoy the newsletter but find it difficult to attend
the actual "Reunion Weekend" because they now have a different wife or partner and the new person on their arm has difficulty in associating with the original ladies of the commissioning crew of 1968. Please, this is not a problem, they are made very welcome and we all end up enjoying the
